The last Technology Lesson

For our last Maori lesson the Matua Harley wanted to do something fun so he decided to do a game, when Matua Harley was explaining he was also sitting up the game. When he was finished he was telling us about this game and giving us an example of them, after we got the hang of it he split us into two teams which were boys vs girls, we played a few rounds of the game and at he end the boys won. After the boys won Matua Harley decided to spit the team up again and this time the game was harder to win, after a hard game at the end team 1 won, then Matua Harley decided to split the team one more time. The game was very hard to win but in the end no one won because it was the end of the day, I had fun and I hope I can do it again.

Technology 2022

This week for Maori we were talking about the Wharenui (Marea) and also the carving on them, we were looking at different pictures of a Wharenui and discussing among each other about them, while we were discussing one of the things the Maori teacher said was that each Maori person you see is either the person who carve the wood or the leaders of the Wharenui. After the discussion the Maori teacher gave each person a piece of paper with an empty Wharenui and asked each of us to draw patterns on the Wharenui, After a while the Maori teacher said, “When you are finished come and get a felt tip pen”. When the bell rang the Maori teacher asked the boys to grab all the pencil, felt tip and paper, when we were finished we went back to school.

Technology 2022

This week for technology class we were learning about how to ask who your parents are in Maori. So first we started by saying simple Maori Korero in different groups, after each group would stand up in front of the class and start saying the simple Maori Korero towards the class, while saying this we would do a hand movement to match our Korero, when everyone was finished we were given another set of Maori Korero to practice. While we were practicing the teacher wanted us to learn each other parents name and practice it, after a while each group stood up and told each other parent name, after that we would use the Maori Korero with the parents name and say it in one sentence. After this we watch a programme about Maori people, when the programme finished it was time to go back to school.

Technology 2022

Today at technology we were revising from last week how to say the days in Maori, we also got into pairs so that we could practice how to say it properly. We were also asking questions in Maori after we finished we had to say the Maori days and questions in front of the class. After this the teacher decided to give us a show to watch which was about racism against Maori people in Pukekohe, it told us how Maori people lived in Pukekohe and the racism. This technology was a little bit different from the others but also enjoyable and I also learned lots of things.

Technology 2022

Today at Technology we had a different teacher,  the new teacher told us that our other Maori teacher had to be somewhere else. After the teacher told us that she also led us to a different classroom and she said that the marae was being occupied. When the lesson started she wanted us to grab a piece of paper and a pencil then she started to write the english word and she also put the Maori writing next to it, when she was finished she wanted us to write it all down a the piece of paper. When all the students were finished she started to write english words again and she also put the Maori writing next to it, she also wanted us writing it down as she was writing it, after all the student were finished she started to teach us how to write the Maori words in a sentence. After she wanted us to write 5 of our own sentence and also draw a picture, after this it was time to go back to school.

Technology

Today at Glen Innes School the year 7 and 8 went to technology. When we got to Tamaki College each student knew where to go, as we got to class our Maori teacher greeted us as he did the morning roll. Our Maori teacher stated things off by giving us a question which asked us about who the person was, it took us some time until our Maori teacher decided to go around and give our answer. After this our Maori teacher decided to play a game of bingo, the way we were playing bingo was very different as we had pictures instead of numbers and each time he would say the picture im Maori but he would lift the picture in his hand to help us out. It took us long to get started because most of the people didn’t have chromebooks so is took long to get started, when we got started the game was very fun and we had a few goes at it until it was time to go. The last thing our Maori teacher wanted us to do before we go was to learn how to say each picture in Maori and he was going to test us the next, after this we went back into our bus and went back to school.

Sportcamp

Being at sportcamp was wonderful, wonderful enough that most students at Glen Innes School already miss it. Being at sportcamp was a new experience and had an impact with our actions and our emotions and it started by playing different types of sports. Just before sportcamp the year 7 and 8 didn’t expect much but as we finished the long journey to Totara Springs (the place we played sports at) we were shocked at what we were seeing and surprised at the reality we were facing. Totara Springs was far, far bigger than I imagined and this was the beginning, on monday we did athletics and it was better than expected.

Then next day we were busy with sports and we were everywhere, we were doing rugby, hockey, soccer, touch and many more and by the end of the day we were exhausted, the food we were getting were delicious as it had lot of flavour into it. The night was very busy as we were doing indoor hockey and it took way too long. The next day was the same as before but some sports were out and some sports were introduced and the food was still good and the night was even busier.

The next day was the most important because we made it into 8 semi finals and made it into 7 finals but in the end we won 5 finals but the night was emotional because the boys lost volleyball. The next day it was prize giving and we won more than we expected and we also won the sportsmanship trophy, coming back was a long journey and everyone was happy to see their family again, sportcamp was fun and very enjoyable.

Dawn Raids

Have you ever heard of the Dawn raids? The Dawn Raid started in 1974 and it was a miserable time for Pacific people, the Dawn Raids affect a lot of Pacific people and is a really sad historical history the Dawn Raids started because of an economic downturn and labour shortage. The Dawn raid was supposed to be used to kick out overstayers but was really targeting Pacific people even when 2/3 of overstayers were from North American and Britain. The Dawn Raids was introduced by the national prime minister of New Zealand Norman Kirk, Norman Kirk used the Pacific people as an excuse to promote him into a prime minister and holds a record of the most votes voted towards him

The Dawn raids happen early hours in the morning and the police would show up with flash light and loud speakers phones, they would also demand for paperwork to prove that you belong here and is a citizen to New Zealand. If you didn’t have any paperwork to prove that you belong to New Zealand they would send you to jail with the clothes you had on, the worst part about it is that if you didn’t have any clothes on you were only giving only a short amount of time to get clothes on. Also when you were in jail you were given two choices and which were both really bad, if you didn’t follow with the choice you made you were deported back and you couldn’t say goodbye to your love ones.

In 1971 a group called the Polynesian panthers started and it was mainly a group of young islanders fighting against racism and making a change for the future people. In 1979 the Dawn raids came to and islanders were able to live a life of freedom and enjoy living their life without fear, once the dawn raid finished the Polynesian panthers more onto another global problem , the dawn raid was a terrible time and I am happy that the Dawn raids are over.

Technology 2022

This week Mr Grundy wanted us to work on our necklace so each student got out their boxes and got to work, I started off by filing my necklace and as I was working Mr Grundy was going around helping people that needed help.As I was still filing some people were getting started at cutting their wood and others were finished filing theirs, when people were finishing filing Mr Grundy was show us how to sand paper our necklaces and he also told us what will happen if we have our fingers on the sandpaper while we are and papering our necklace. After he told us about the sandpaper I started going back to filing my necklace, as time went on people were finishing and I was still filing my necklace, when it was nearly time we packed up and and went back to school.

Prototec

As my results show I have achieved excellent, as I look at my result I have a goal in mind which I can achieve and will accomplish and that goal is to get 100 percent on stage 8. The reason why I didn’t get to 100 percent is because I didn’t process the answer fast enough and I will work towards that until I achieve it. Prototec is a math website which has 7 stages which get harder and harder and I’m on stage eight which is the last level, prototec is really good and can help you with your maths.
